About phpwcms

open source and web content management

Open Source is a hype and since the success of LINUX it is widely accepted. Because of having no license fees and the possibility of look at the source code a large group of professional, public and private users use open source software for their special needs. In my opinion open source is a social movement: give and take. Look at SourceForge.net, the world's largest Open Source software development website. This shows you what I mean. You can find very professional software for nearly every scope of application.

phpwcms is Open Source

phpwcms is free software and you can use it for free. You can redistribute it and/or modify it under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by the Free Software Foundation; either version 2 of the License, or (at your option) any later version. If you have downloaded the code you can extend phpwcms yourself. My wish is that you give your changes and enhancements back to the community. Please use the support forum or send me an email (oliver at phpwcms dot de).

The motivation to write another content management system

About a year ago (AUG-02) I had a job to produce a larger website. There the customer should be able to manage the whole content self. So I searched for a possible content management solution – I tested nearly every available for free out there. At the end it was TYPO3 that fits my needs. TYPO3 is a very potent software (good work Kasper) but has one huge disadvantage: it needs a lot of time before you will get the first professional result. This was the motivation for me to extend one of my work – a file management solution for usergroups. That is why you can find a message and chat module in phpwcms. What I definitly did not want is a replacement to TYPO3. phpwcms is an entry or better mid-range content management system.
